Dr. Amani Talwar is a Research Associate II at CSAL. She has over seven years of experience in quantitative research with struggling adult readers. Before her current position, she was affiliated with CSAL as a Dean's Doctoral Research Fellow since August 2014. Prior to her work at Georgia State University (GSU), she was a Research Assistant at Mount Holyoke College, where she worked on projects involving the spelling and composition skills of students enrolled in Adult Basic Education classes. Amani completed a B.A. in Psychology and Education at Mount Holyoke College and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Educational Psychology at GSU. Her master’s thesis investigated the contributions of memory capacities to the reading comprehension performance of struggling adult readers, and her dissertation focused on using quantile regression to explore the underlying competencies of reading comprehension for this population. Her research has been published in journals such as Scientific Studies of Reading and the Journal of Research in Reading.
